Vietnamese firms urged to go green

Update: 07/01/2010
Environmentally friendly products and production methods are attracting both local customers and foreign importers, according to experts.

Nguyen Bac Son, marketing director of Dien Quang Joint-Stock Co, said green products would contribute to export enterprises’ competitiveness and to the Vietnamese brand.

Another businessman, Le Hai Lieu, board chairman of Duc Thanh Wood Processing Joint-Stock Co, said manufacturers should apply modern technology and obey strict regulations to make green products.

Last year Sony Viet Nam introduced energy-saving innovations, including the Bravia WES television which reduces power consumption by 40 per cent compared to previous LCD TV models.

The television switches off temporarily when the viewers step away from the screen and comes back on when they re-appear.

Other innovations include the first environmentally friendly mortar production factory operated by Viglacera Construction Chemical Joint-Stock Co in Ha Noi with investment capital of US$2 million and capacity of 48,000 tonnes per year. It is equipped with a dust-filter system which eliminates nearly all dust.
