Launching the Vietnam Sea and Islands week and organizing activities to respond to the World Ocean Day 2018

In the morning of June 1, in Ben Do area (Cam Pha city), Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, People’s Committee of Quang Ninh province, High Command of Border Guard,High Command of Navy, Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union held a launching ceremony for the Vietnam Sea and Islands week and organized activities to respond to the World Ocean Day 2018.

It is the annual event with its important role of a country. The theme of the Vietnam Sea and Islands Week 2018 is “Keep Ocean Blue”. This event aims to disseminate on sea and islands of Vietnam; affirm its potential; express the determination of the Party, the Army, the People to develop sustainably the marine economy, protect marine natural resources and environment as well as sovereign of Vietnam on its sea and islands.

To respond to the World Ocean Day 2018, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment proposed all levels and sectors at 28 provinces and cities under the central government which own its sea and other provinces nationwide to respond to these events. It requires these localities to have practical activities to create a wide pervasion in the society and make these ones as usual works, in order to change habits and behaviors of each individual to save environment for us today and our next generations.

To respond to the World Ocean Day 2018, Minister Tran Hong Ha call all people to express their love with the ocean by sharing hands together with international community to solve emerging issues today, including:

“Changing awareness on sea and ocean! Fully aware on the role of meaning of sea and ocean, then have practical actions to save it for today and in the future.

Changing our behavior with the ocean! Let’s change from our smallest things to save environment and reduce waste discharged into environment, preventing the ocean from pollution sources.

Having more comprehensive knowledge on the ocean! It is needed to understand more deeply on the ocean and its potential as well as negative impacts on the ocean since it plays the role of habitat and bring about considerable physical and mental values for the people”.

On this occasion, Minister Tran Hong Ha also asked the community to share their hand together with international community to protect environment, accuse irresponsible actions causing marine environmental pollution, damaging its ecosystem; to organize practical and meaningful activities to protect environment. At the same time, it also enhances dissemination and education to raise awareness of community and people on marine environmental protection, proper use and exploitation of marine resources; to actively and effectively adapt to climate change and sea level rise; to strongly deploy the sea and islands natural resources management; to enhance investment and mobilization of resources and promote basic investigation; to research and apply advantages of science and technology in management, exploitation and use sustainably the natural resources and protect environment of sea and islands.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Duc Long, Vice Secretary of the People’s Committee of Quang Ninh province also called the levels, sectors, and politic-social agencies, media agencies and local residents in the province in particular and nationwide in general to change awareness on the important role of sea and islands in the career of building and protecting the country as well as to appreciate the value of ocean on human life; to change awareness on sustainable exploitation, use and protection of marine resources; to change national awareness on the protection of sea sovereign of the country, contributing to the success of the Vietnam Sea Strategy, specifying by 2020 Vietnam will become a powerful country on sea. He also expected the local and other provincial tourists as well as foreigner coming to Quang Ninh province, will join their hands and respond to the activities of the Vietnam Sea and Islands Week and World Ocean Day 2018.
