In the evening of March 30 in Ha Noi, the Ministry of Industry and Trade hosted a ceremony in response to the Earth Hour with the theme “Saving energy, Protecting the Earth”, in the presence of Vice State President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh.

In her remarks, Thinh underlined that climate change has affected people’s living environment globally as well as on many countries’ socio-economic growth. Viet Nam is considered one of the countries which is thought to be heavily affected by climate change. Thus, Vietnam’s active response to the Earth Hour campaign for 11 consecutive years demonstrates the country’s determination to realize goals of environmental protection and climate change response.

The Earth Hour 2019 campaign calls upon the whole people and businesses to save energy and protect the environment, she concluded.

In Vietnam over the past month, a number of cities, businesses, and organizations held activities in response to the event. The highlight of the Earth Hour 2019 was that, together with other countries and territories worldwide, all 63 provinces and cities of Viet Nam switched off unnecessary electrical devices within one hour.

The Earth Hour campaign is an annual worldwide movement initiated and organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) from 2007. Around 7,000 cities in 187 countries and territories have responded to the campaign.
