In the framework of ASEAN Tourism Forum 2008-ATF held in Bangkok (Thailand) from 17 to 26 January 2008, ASEAN Secretariat has granted ASEAN Green Hotel Awards for hotels in 10 ASEAN countries.
There were 10 hotels in Viet Nam had the honor to receive this award, in which three hotels rated as 5-star, six hotels of 4-star and one of 3-star. They are:
- Ana Mandara Resort- Rex Hotel- Majestic Hotel- Caravelle Hotel- First Hotel- Continental Hotel- Grand Hotel- Kim Do Hotel- Liberty 4 Hotel- Hanoi Daewoo Hotel. ASEAN Green Hotel Awards has been assessed by ASEAN Secretariat based on 11 criteria in order to protect environment and energy including: - Tourist accommodation has environmental protection policy and environmentally friendly operation; - Green products are used in the tourist accommodation; - Tourist accommodation establishes policy to cooperate with local community and inhabitant in environmental protection; - Training policy, human resources development, heading employee to the environmental protection; - Scientifically solid waste management policy; - Energy efficiency and savings; - Efficiently use of water sources; - Manage well the air quality (inside and outside tourist accommodation); - Having measure to control noise pollution; - Manage and treat well waste water; - Having measure to mange chemical and hazardous waste; 
In order to determine the accuracy and equality in the selection and receipt of ASEAN Green Hotel Awards, content of 11 criteria has been concretized into 25 requirements by ASEAN Secretariat in order to select qualified tourist accommodations that implemented well environmental protection and sustainable development. Tourist accommodations are selected based on practical environment protection, awards, and certificates on environment that has been archived by such tourist accommodations but it is not necessarily for those that have high ratings. According to Hotel Department – Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism, 10 hotels of Viet Nam granted 2008 ASEAN Green Hotel Awards are met with all criteria set forth by ASEAN Secretariat on environmental protection and energy saving in the business activity. Of 10 hotels, 9 hotels have been granted with ISO 14001 certificate on environment. For Ana Madara Nha Trang resort which is currently managed and operated by Six Senses Group has been highly spoken by domestic as well as international tourist about its service quality and environmental protection.
