The Quang Nam provincial People's Committee has just issued a plan for the 20th anniversary of Hoi An ancient town and My Son Sanctuary recognized as the UNESCO’s World Cultural Heritages (September 4, 1999 - September 4, 2019). The plan was also made to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Cu Lao Cham-Hoi An Biosphere Reserve (May 26, 2009 - May 26, 2019).
Visitors to My Son Sanctuary
According to the plan, the events will be held in May, September and December 2019 in Tam Ky, Hoi An, and Duy Xuyen. The 20th anniversary celebration of Hoi An ancient town and My Son Sanctuary recognized as the World Cultural Heritages by UNESCO and 10 years of Cham Islands recognized as the World Biosphere Reserve will take place at My Son Sanctuary in Duy Xuyen district on September 9, 2019. There will be a conference expected to occur in Tam Ky on September 6th, 2019. It aims to assess the conservation and promotion of cultural values in Hoi An and My Son during the last 20 years and of Cham Islands since it was recognized as a World Biosphere Reserve. An international scientific workshop on the role of community in preservation and promotion of the World Cultural Heritages of My Son Sanctuary, Hoi An ancient town is scheduled for September 7, 2019 in Tam Ky city. Besides, there will be some other activities such as starting Indochina Heritage Road tour, host for the VTV International Women's Volleyball Cup 2019, arts exhibition on cultural heritages.
In Hoi An, it is expected to organize a photo exhibition on Hoi An cultural heritage - 20 years of conservation and development, an introduction of traditional handicraft products, an exhibition on books about Hoi An, a seminar on establishment of the World Heritage Club in Vietnam, the propagation of cultural heritages and museums, and some other activities of thanksgiving, culture, arts, sports, and environmental protection.
In Duy Xuyen, there will be an art show under the theme of My Son – an everlasting heritage, an exhibition of pictures and artifacts of My Son, a conversation about enterprises and heritages, Lady Thu Bon festival, and community activities.
In addition, there will be the Miss Heritage 2019 finalists happening in Hoi An in May 2019, parade of ancient cars in Hoi An – Dien Ban – Duy Xuyen in September 2019, Golf Tournament in Hoi An in September 2019, presentation of the Contemporary Art: Legend of Champa – My Son in December 2019 in Hoi An and My Son.
The events focus on the achievements and solutions to conservation and promotion of heritages’ values. At the same time, they will be the chances of thanking organizations and individuals for their contributions to preserving and promoting the values of the heritages during the last time, contributing to raising the locals’ awareness and responsibility for the preservation of cultural and natural heritages. Furthermore, the events help to enhance the propagation and promotion of the images of Hoi An ancient town, My Son Sanctuary, Cu Lao Cham - Hoi An Biosphere Reserve to the public, promote tourism development, and attract more investment in Quang Nam.
