Tra Que is a charming little village on the edge of Hoi An, the village is named after the sweet scented vegetables that spice up the everyday meals of the Pho Hoi people. Since the beginning of the XX century and previous, Tra Que had been one of the important stop of many boats sailing along the De Vong river from Hoi An to Da Nang and vice versa.
Situated 3km north of the ancient town of Hoi An ( Quang Nam Province), Tra Que Village in Cam Ha Commune has been around for hundreds of years.
The village is a famous place for many kinds of vegetables: Lettuce, Salad, Houttuynia, Coriander, and Basil vegetables...etc. However, many residents admitted they do not know when their village first began to grow vegetables. Over the years the village has become a major vegetable supplier in the region. In the village, the vegetable growers are called ‘artisans’ not ‘farmers’ because the entire farming process, from tilling the land, digging furrows, and planting seedlings, is done artistically.
After Hoi An Ancient Town was recognized as a World Cultural Heritage Site in 1999, the village has also become one of attractive destinations of Hoi An to both foreign and domestic tourists.
Coming to the site, tourists will have chance to experience a day of living and working with the local people in the Tra Que vegetable village. Specially, the highlight of the visit is a chance to try their hand at actual farming. Therefore, most of tourists are interested in becoming "farmer in a day". Furthermore, tourists will be also enjoyed special foods making from local vegetables.
Visiting Tra Que, visitors not only are "admired" all kinds of special vegetables, enjoy the fresh air but also communicate with friendly and hospitable local people as well as learn about the culture of Vietnam's agriculture.
In the recent years, there are over 1,000 int'l and domestic arrivals visiting Tra Que annually. It contributes to the arrival's increase to Quang Nam province.
The products of Tra Que has been certified the vegetable trademark by the Department of Intellectual Property (Ministry of Science and Technology) in 2009.
