Ba Vi National Park and its surroundings will be transformed into a geopark. The news was announced by Dr. Tram Tan Van, head of the Institute of Geosciences and Mineral at the 2ndgeopark international conference, recently held inVietnam.
Mr. Van remarked that Ba Vi National Park and its surroundings have still kept many sites of natural heritage, including ancient volcano activity and cultural values associated with myths and legends.
In addition, six areas in Vietnam also have the potential to become global geoparks in the near future. These include Ha Long Bay - a world natural heritage site, Ca Ba park – a world biosphere reserve, Hoang LienNational Park in the northwestern province of Lao Cai, Ba Fall in the northern mountainous province ofYen Bai, Cuc Phuong National Park and Hoa Lu ancient capital in the northern province of Ninh Binh.
Currently, only Dong Van stone highlands in the northern mountainous province of Ha Giang has been recognized as a global geopark.
