Ba Be Lake is located in Nam Mau commune, Ba Be district, Bac Kan province, 220 km away from Hanoi. Three rivers named Day Lu, Day Lam and Day Len are main inflows of the lake covering 500 hectares.
Ba Be Lake’s charmings lie in the wild and romantic beauty of majestic limestone cliffs. It owns not only the unique geological landforms but also biodiversity on the land and water with more than 1,200 plant species, 500 animal species and more than 100 species of fishes. Ba Be Lake is one of the world's rare lakes with three lakes.
Ba Be Lake is recognized one of the 20 special freshwater lakes in the world that need to be protected. Visitors can ride the motoboat to view the lake. The millions of years of erosion have created many small islands floating on the water. In addition, visitors are able to experience the feeling of twilight in Puong cave that is 300m long and 30m high. Besides, millions of years of erosion have made natural stones so beautiful. Leaving the Puong cave, visitors can come to Hua Tang village lying in the bank of Nang river. The river is blocked by hundreds of large stones that separate it into several small streams. These streams form the Dau Dang waterfall which is 1,000 m long with three stone steps. Each step differs 3 to 4 meters in length.
Ba Be Lake also attracts the visitors by more than 417 plant species and 299 species of vertebrates. In the lake, there are more than 49 species of freshwater fishes including some rare fishes such as glass carp, blue ram and cyprinid.
Besides, enjoying natural landscape, tourists can learn and discover about traditions and the daily life of Tay, H'mong, Dao people living in 15 villages in the Ba Be National Park. Adjacent to Ba Be Lake, there is Pac Ngoi village where locates 40 stilt houses of the Tay people. Every year, every family receives from 400 to 1,500 visitors.
In recent years, community tourism is quite developed, especially minority groups. They do home stay, Brocade and participate in guiding local knowledge for tourists. Tourism here donot develop as good as other plances but the lake has made those who first arrived in Ba impressed. The new prospects of the lake will attract more domestic and foreign tourists to discover this unique landscape.
