(TITC) - On June 8, VNAT’s Vice Chairman Ha Van Sieu had virtual meeting with French Embassy in Viet Nam and representative of Michelin Group about the proposal to promote Vietnamese culinary in the world-known Michelin Guide.
Established in 1888, Michelin is a world-famous French tire company. In 1900, the company released the Michelin Guide. At first, the guidebook just had maps with list of hotels and Michelin’s tire shops. In 1920, the guide added restaurant listing. After that Michelin Company recruited a team of mystery diners (or restaurant inspectors now) to visit and review restaurants anonymously. In1930, the guide began to award stars for fine dining establishments.
Restaurants may receive zero to 3 stars for the quality of their food based on five criteria: quality of the ingredients used, mastery of flavor and cooking techniques, the personality of the chef in his cuisine, value for money and consistency between visits.
The Michelin Guide has received a high response and appreciation from tourists and culinary experts. Being awarded a Michelin star is considered an honour for every restaurant in the world. In addition to the culinary handbook, Michelin has developed an Michelin Guide Worldwide app so that visitors can easily access online.
Showing the impressive with the diverse and unique of Viet Nam cuisine as well as many dishes having brandnames in the world, the representative of Michelin Group proposed to cooperate with Vietnam National Administration of Tourism on introducing and promoting Vietnamese cuisine in Michelin Guide.

Speaking on meeting, Vice Chairman Ha Van Sieu said Vietnam tourism has grown strongly in recent years and cuisine is one of the important factors that helps affirm the country’s position on the world tourist map. Vietnamese cuisine is very diverse with many delicious, unique and easy-to-eat dishes, difference from region to region.
He hoped that the COVID-19 pandemic is controlled and international tourism is reopened, the two sides will have chances to meet face-to-face and discuss cooperation plans.
