(TITC) - On 10th March, the Opening Ceremony of the 8th Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Festival 2023 took place at 10/3 Square in Buon Ma Thuot City (Dak Lak Province, Central Highlands of Vietnam).

The Festival this year embraces the theme “Buon Ma Thuot - destination of world coffee”. The 8th Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Festival 2023 with the main aim is to promote developing high quality coffee, Vietnamese specialty coffee, making Buon Ma Thuot a destination of world coffee. In addition to introducing, honouring and promoting unique heritage images, values of coffee culture, people, and Gong culture in the Central Highlands, Buon Ma Thuot - Dak Lak in particular and the Central Highlands in general.
Addressed the ceremony, Mr. Pham Ngoc Nghi - Chairman of Dak Lak Provincial People Committee stated, with an area of about 210,000 hectares of coffee and an annual harvest of over 520,000 tons, Dak Lak is known as the ‘coffee capital’ of the country. Coffee products from Dak Lak have shown up in over 60 countries and territories. The 8th Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Festival 2023 was organised on the largest scale, following the trend of international integration; modern style highlights the main theme. With several activities in the framework of the Festival, it is a place for coffee growers, producers, processors and traders to converge and be honoured.

Speaking at the Opening Ceremony, H.E. Mr. Tran Luu Quang - Deputy Prime Minister said, Dak Lak - the ‘coffee capital’ of the country, is famous for its rich red basalt lands, where there are immense coffee plantations. The coffee brand of Buon Ma Thuot has gained its reputation in more than 60 countries and territories worldwide. By that, it contributed to the coffee export turnover of the country with a value of more than USD 1.9 billion.

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang also stressed the importance of building a sustainable coffee value chain associated with cultural and tourism development, promoting the application of science and technology to production, in order to increase productivity, ensure product quality, and enhance added value, in additionally, adapt to climate change, protect the ecological environment…

The Deputy Prime Minister further emphasised the necessity to grasp the consumer trend of the market, build appropriate brand promotion, marketing and position navigation strategies. The localities need to promote the relationship between enterprises, cooperatives and coffee growers; diversifying connecting producers with consumers, promoting the development of high quality coffee, specialty coffees with unique flavours that are internationally certified.

On the same day, the street festival within the framework of Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Festival with the theme "Buon Ma Thuot - The convergence of three world coffee civilizations" kicked off. The event is one of 18 main activities of the 8th Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Festival 2023, including 3 parts: Opening ceremony, parade and exchange activities.
Miss H'Hen Nie - Communication Ambassador of the 8th Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Festival; Delegation of 450 artisans and farmers from 15 districts, towns of Buon Ma Thuot; Art troupes from some countries such as: Jeollabuk Province (Korea), Mondulkiri Province (Cambodia), Champasak Province (Lao People's Democratic Republic) attended the street festival.
There are fascinating art performances to introduce coffee civilizations; parades of gongs representing the E De, E De Bih, Xo Dang, Gia Rai, Muong and coffee farmers; performances from art troupes from different countries; street dance art; parades… joined and celebrated the festival.
