(TITC) - In the framework of the Mekong Tourism Forum 2022 (MTF 2022), on 10th October, in Quang Nam Province took place the Steering Committee Meeting of the Second Greater Mekong Subregion Tourism Infrastructure for Inclusive Growth (TIIG) Project.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Lien, Deputy Director General of the Department of Planning and Finance, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam and Mr. Steven Schipani, Senior Tourism Specialist of Asia Development Bank (ADB) co-chaired the meeting.
Giving a remark at the meeting, Deputy Director General of the Department of Planning and Finance, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam Nguyen Thi Hong Lien said, during the last two years, not only tourism, but also other industries suffered severely from the impact of Covid-19, TIIG 2 Project was not an exception. In Viet Nam, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as well as project participating provinces all had to go through numerous difficulties during the project implementation process.

Ms. Lien hopes that the meeting will have a fruitful session to share with each other the stories, lessons and solutions to boost the TIIG 2 project implementation. With the fact that tourism opening is already happening in almost all parts of the world, including the three countries, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, the results that TIIG 2 project brings will play an important role in the GMS tourism recovery and development.
At the same time, Deputy Director General of the Department of Planning and Finance, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam Nguyen Thi Hong Lien highly appreciates the continuous support for the GMS tourism sector.

During the meeting, representatives of the 3 countries Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia updated and shared progress made, key project implementation issues and solutions to promote the development of the tourism industry.
Accordingly, on the Vietnam side, 3 outputs were focused: (1) Urban-Rural Access Infrastructure and Urban Environmental Services Improved: access roads to tourism sites; passenger piers; coastal defences; public greenspace; (2) Capacity to implement ASEAN Tourism Standards strengthened: certification bodies; assessment frameworks; standards adoption promotion; (3) Institutional capacity for tourism destination management and infrastructure O&M strengthened: destination management; marketing; O&M plan; asset management..
