Discovering wonderful beaches in Da Nang

Cập nhật: 29/12/2010

Located in middle of Central Vietnam, between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, separated from Laos by the western Truong Son Mountains. Da Nang is surrounded by Thua Thien-Hue along the northern border and Quang Nam in the southern border. Da Nang is favored by nature, situated in the middle of the three world cultural heritage sites including the ancient capital of Hue, the ancient town of Hoi An and the holy land of My Son. Such the position highlights the Da Nang's role in Central Vietnam.

Not only at the central point of the three world cultural heritages, Da Nang city has also lots of attractive spots which tourists feel unforgettable after visiting the city.

The city has nearly 50km coastline where was known as one of the ideal destinations in Central Vietnam with many beautiful seashores stretching from the north to the south such as Nam O, Xuan Thieu, Tien Sa, My Khe, Son Tra, Bac My An, Non Nuoc...

Specially, the beach in Da Nang has been recognized as one of the most luxurious beaches in the world by Forbes —a US reputable magazine in 2005.

They are calm seas with blue water during four seasons, not being polluted with 60% salination and high safety.

Nam O Beach borders on the Bay of Da Nang, which is just north of the Son Tra peninsula -- you can get a good view of it from Monkey Mountain.

Other activities here are fishing, water-skiing, diving and yacht race.

Xuan Thieu beach is not only a popular destination for locals, especially for citizens living in Lien Chieu District, but is also one of the attractive tourist areas in Da Nang city. Since 1992, Xuan Thieu Tourism Resort (located along Nguyen Tat Thanh Street), has been built with a rather streamlined and sufficient system of services, including hotels, restaurants and some kinds of entertainment for bathing, diving, parachuting, yacht race, meeting all tourists' demand. Nguyen Tat Thanh street was rebuilt with firm infrastructure. The seashore is redesigned to meet the tourists’ demand.

Tourists will be impressed by small corridor with strange fence for walking along the Street. Under the corridor and at the seaside, there is a range of black rocks. It is different from other streets in Da Nang city.

Tourists can view the beach entirely at high positions. Thanks to such improvement, Xuan Thieu Beach becomes cleaner, more beautiful and unchanged with white and silky sand and blue water and short waves. The sun rises and sets making a red light on the beach extending to the distant horizon.

Tien Sa beach is located on the western side of the Son Tra peninsula, east of the Han River. It’s a relatively small beach with calm waters in a sheltered cove, and some interesting rocks to climb on to the west. It fills up with Vietnamese on holidays, and rarely gets foreign visitors. There is only one resort on the beach with groups of small, nice-looking houses, where people can sit for hours to hear the thunder of waves and view the slanginess on the far mount cliffs.

My Khe Beach is located about 6km east of Da Nang and about 24km north of Hoi An. It is a nine-kilometre stretch of smooth sand with an average width between 50m and 70m. The gradient is gentle, and its sheltered position in the lee of the Son Tra peninsula softens the autumn winds.

Especially, the beach is next to the city centre, in roads easy to come and by various means of transport. Sea water in My Khe is cool with little wave so you can bath all year's round, especially in summer from May to August. The lack of large waves, high sanitary and an annual mean temperature around 25oC, make it a safe place to swim for adults and children alike.

Along the beach area, there is plenty of seafood restaurants and stalls, and large number of local vendors on the beach selling all kinds of foods and drinks and coastal specialties like shrimps, crabs, fish, cuttles, ... etc.

Non Nuoc beach has wave, climate and salinity that suit sea sports. In 1993, an international surfing competition was held here with the participation of 40 foreign athletes.

At Non Nuoc beach, beside convalescence and bathing, tourists can visit the Marble Mountains where there are ancient pagodas and sacred monumental caves, go around the stone handicraft villages right at the foot of the Marble Mountains or travel by boat on the Co Co river to enjoy peacefulness of the Marble Mountains.

Nowadays, many entertainment areas have been built along the beaches offering whole day service. Beautiful spots along the beach provide snorkeling scuba diving, sea parachuting, Jet-ski service. Fishing, sea-motoring, fish-farming visiting, boat trip around the peninsula are also available. Many resorts are ready to offer tourists attractive services such as parachuting, climbing, diving, fishing, boating.

Recently, in order to attract investment in tourism, Da Nang city has developed the tourism master plan of the area which has the beautiful landscape and the best coastal environment in Vietnam, along the Son Tra - Dien Ngoc coastal road, stretching from Furama Resort to the Marble Mountains. This area is designated for establishing a luxury complex of high-class hotels and tourist services. Many major projects which have been licensed and managed by up-scale brands such as Hyatt Regency, Raffles and Marriot, operate in five-star hotels and resorts to make a breakthrough for tourism development in Da Nang.

In the near future, many beach clubs will be developed along the beach where is expected to become an interesting yearly international sports event.
