(TITC) - On 21st February 2024, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MOCST), a press conference about the Visit Vietnam Year - Dien Bien 2024 took place. MOCST’s Deputy Minister Trinh Thi Thuy and Vice Chairman of Dien Bien People's Committee Vu A Bang co-chaired the press conference.

According to MOCST’s Deputy Minister Trinh Thi Thuy, Dien Bien is known as a historical land associated with the worldwide famous victory. Relics such as: A1 Hill, De Castries bunker, Dien Bien Phu Victory Monument, Dien Bien Phu Historical Victory Museum, Muong Phang Campaign Command Headquarters or Temple of Martyrs and Heroes at Dien Bien Phu Battlefield... are invested in construction and renovation, it has met the demands of sightseeing and learning history of a large number of domestic and international tourists.
In addition to its historical tourism strengths, Dien Bien is also a land rich in potential for leisure tourism, wellness tourism with a hot mineral spring system, invested homestays or eco-tourism, exploring the natural landscape and experiencing the cultural identities of 19 ethnic groups.
To continue promoting the role of Dien Bien tourism in linking and creating motivation for tourism development in the Northwest region, in 2024, Dien Bien Province is chosen to be the local host of the Visit Vietnam Year 2024, themed “Glorious Dien Bien Phu - Timeless Experiences”. This is the second time Dien Bien Province has been chosen to host the Visit Vietnam Year (the first time took place in 2004 - exactly 20 years ago).

With 169 responding programs and events, including 13 national programmes and events organised by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, ministries, departments and central branches; Dien Bien Province presided over the organisation of 28 programmes, events and activities; 128 events and response activities organised by 33 provinces and centrally run cities, through the event Visit Vietnam Year - Dien Bien 2024, the values and potentials of Dien Bien tourism in particular, the Northwest region and Vietnam tourism in general will be converged and promoted effectively, contributing to realising the goal of turning tourism into a key economic sector.

At the press conference, Director of Dien Bien Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Mr. Nguyen Minh Phu gave an overview of the Visit Vietnam Year 2024; activities and events within the framework of Visit Vietnam Year 2024 and tourism in Dien Bien Province; design of the logo and symbol of the Visit Vietnam Year 2024.
Accordingly, the highlight of the Visit Vietnam Year - Dien Bien 2024 is the Opening Ceremony, associated with the organisation of Ban Flower Festival in 2024, with the theme: "Returning to Hoa Ban region" at 7:30 p.m. on 16 March and a special art programme and high-altitude fireworks display will be held on 6th May at 7-5 Dien Bien Phu City Square; Celebration of the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory on 7 May at Dien Bien Provincial Stadium.
Besides, there is the Northwest - Dien Bien Tourism Fair, National Cuisine Festival 2024 held in August at 7-5 Dien Bien Phu City Square; Northwest - Dien Bien Industry and Trade Fair 2024 in Quarter 2/2024; Summary and Closing Ceremony of "Visit Vietnam Year - Dien Bien 2024" held in December in Dien Bien Phu City.
Mr. Phu said that the logo and slogan of the Visit Vietnam Year - Dien Bien 2024 are built on the heroic hall of fame along with the convergence and crystallisation of unique culture and majestic nature of the border land.
The central image is the Dien Bien Phu Victory Monument with the desire to express heroic history, aspirations for peace, and towards future development. Along with that is the colourful stylized image of Ban Flower showing the typical beauty of Dien Bien.
The logo and slogan are designed based on the typical colours of Dien Bien tourism. In particular, yellow symbolises historical - spiritual tourism, faith and aspiration. The colours indigo, green, and light purple symbolise cultural tourism and exploration of natural landscapes. Blue represents leisure tourism, entertainment, and wellness, helping balance energy and bringing positive emotions…

Vice Chairman of Dien Bien Provincial People's Committee Vu A Bang said that in addition to the strength of historical and spiritual tourism, Dien Bien is also rich in potential in leisure tourism, wellness, eco-tourism, natural landscape exploration and experiencing the cultural identities of 19 ethnic groups. Dien Bien tourism is oriented to develop into a spearhead economic sector on the basis of effectively exploiting the potentials and advantages based on three main pillars: Historical - spiritual tourism; ethnic cultural tourism, exploring natural landscapes; entertainment, wellness and leisure tourism.
