Sea turtle returns to Nha Trang Bay (Khanh Hoa)

Update: 09/10/2024
A sea turtle has once again been spotted in the waters off Hon Mun Island, one of a cluster of islands in Nha Trang Bay (Khanh Hoa Province), marking the reappearance of the creature after a long period of no sightings.

Huynh Binh Thai, head of management board of Nha Trang Bay, said on October 8 that the turtle was found through capture cameras operated by the management board on October 4.

While growing up, sea turtles experience many different habitats. During the breeding season, they tend to return to coral reefs and seagrass, then the place where they were born to nest and lay eggs, according to Thai.

The appearance of sea turtles in the waters off Hon Mun Island therefore shows that the marine ecological environment of Nha Trang Bay has improved and sea turtles have returned to their birthplace to lay eggs, he shared.

Earlier, a female turtle was found nesting on Hon Tre Island in 2009.

Local authorities also explored a sea turtle growing up on Hon Tre Island in August 2015. Elsewhere, eggs of sea turtles were also detected on Hon Tre Island in June 2016.
