In the morning of 22nd March 2012, at Ninh Phuoc Children’s Culture Centre, the Project Management Unit of the Capacity Building in Assessing and Managing Water Resources of Vietnam (under Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment) in Ninh Thuan organized a meeting to respond to the World Water Day 2012: “Water and Food Security”.
Having participated in the meeting were leaders of departments, branches, people’s committees of districts, city and Phuoc Dan town, and more than 100 youth union’s members and students. Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Do Huu Nghi attended and delivered a speech at the meeting.
At the meeting, Mr. Do Huu Nghi emphasized: “Ninh Thuan has the most severe and driest climate of the country. There are difficulties in meeting the demand for domestic and production water, especially water for agricultural production. This is one of the biggest limitations of the provincial socio-economic development. In order to raise the awareness on the importance of water resources in the socio-economic development in general and in production, ensuring food security in particular, and especially in community development, ensuring to supply enough food for people, it is the responsibilities of both the local authorities and the communities. Therefore, the community awareness raising and attitudes in water protection should also be enhanced.” On this occasion, Mr. Do Huu Nghi called the local authorities at all levels, departments, branches and local inhabitants joining water resources protection, use and management of this resource in an efficient and saving manner.
Fully awareness on the important of water for the socio-economic development of the province, the representative of Youth Union in Phuoc Dan town, Ninh Phuoc district committed to carry out the following actions: Using water resources in an effective and saving manner; each teenager is a real propagandist to encourage, promote their friends, family and communities taking actions of water resources protection; actively joining national and international organizations to contribute to water protection; organizing and carrying out activities effectively, regularly and sustainably; developing general information channel to exchange and share ideas, actions of water environment protection.
After the meeting, 100 youth union’s members and students paraded by bicycles crossing Binh Quy residential area, Bau Truc ceramic traditional village and Phuoc Dan town to respond to the World Water Day 2012.
