According to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the ministry will coordinate with the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour and Quang Ninh provincial People’s Committee to organize activities marking World Environment Day (June 5th 2012) in Quang Ninh province.
Apart from a national meeting, activities will include a forum on green economy towards to sustainable development, an exhibition on publications and documents about sustainable development, visits to several enterprises applying green technology in Quang Ninh province, the presentation of certificates of merit to organizations, individuals and enterprises that made outstanding achievements in the cause of environmental protection and sustainable development in Quang Ninh province, and a launching ceremony to plant trees and mangrove forest.
Vietnam has marked World Environment Day since 1982. It has become a specific and practical activity, contributing to improving the awareness of the community about environmental protection and sustainable development.
The 2012 theme for World Environment Day is “Green Economy: Does it include you?”
The UN Environment Programme defines the Green Economy as one that results in improved human well-being and social equity, while significantly reducing environmental risks and ecological scarcities. In its simplest expression, a green economy can be thought of as one which is low carbon, resource efficient and socially inclusive.
