Vietnam responds to World Environment Day 2012

This year, the national meeting responding to World Environment Day - 5 June will take place in Ha Long city, Quang Ninh province, with the participation of the leaders of Party, State, ministries and representatives from United Nations agencies, international development organizations in Vietnam.

The World Environment Day 2012 is themed "Green Economy: Does it include you?". It aims to call all humanity together to build a green economy towards a sustainable future. Vietnam has participated in this annual event since 1982. The World Environment Day 2012 will be held just a few weeks before United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development Rio +20 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

According to UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme), a green economy is described as one that results in improved human well-being and social equity, while significantly reducing environmental risks and ecological scarcities. In other words, a green economy is as an economic environment that achieves low carbon emissions, resource efficiency and at the same time is socially inclusive.

In Vietnam, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment urged ministries, departments, central associations, people's committees of provinces and cities to direct their agencies, enterprises to organize communication campaigns on environmental protection; encourage to use environmentally friendly and less energy consumption products; limit use of fuel generating much polluted waste…

A series of activities of national level will take place in two days of 4 and 5 June in Ha Long city, Quang Ninh province aiming to respond to World Environment Day and International Year of Sustainable Energy 2012 such as: Workshop - Forum "Green Economy towards sustainable development and environmental protection" to exchange information and share the model of environmental protection, towards building a green economy in Quang Ninh province; afforesting mangrove trees…

Ha Noi is a pioneer city responding to the campaign. The city also calls all domestic and international businesses, companies and organizations and every capital citizen to join to respond World Environment Day 2012 with practical actions such as: limiting use of resources, fuel which generate emissions causing greenhouse effect and climate change; creating the habit of engaging in environmental protection movements, economical use of non-renewable natural resources as coal, oil, gas; actively participating in the activities as afforesting, preserving forest, conserving wildlife...

On 2 June 2012, Hanoi will hold the launching ceremony responding to World Environment Day at Cau Giay Park. The launching ceremony will have the participation of representatives of the wards, the political-social organizations, businesses, armed forces, schools in Cau Giay district and Hanoi citizens.
