A new wildlife rescue center will be built in Hoang Lien National Park in the northern province of Lao Cai. Provincial authorities said on Monday they are close to approving the Fauna and Flora Rescue Center project, which will be housed 18 km south west of the famed resort town of Sa Pa.

The park is located in the Hoang Lien mountain range and is home to the Indochina Peninsula’s highest peak, Mount Fansipan (3,143 meters).

Opening in 2002, the park is home to more than 2,000 species of flora and 66 species of animals, including 16 endangered species. It also has 347 kinds of birds, 41 amphibian species and 61 types of different reptiles.
