On November 11, in Hanoi, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, Vo Tuan Nhan and Mr. Gunther Adler - State Secretary, Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB)co-chaired the Vietnam-German forum on water resources management in river basin of Vietnam.
Overview of forum
At the forum, the Deputy Minister highly appreciated the friendly traditional cooperation between Vietnam and Germany, especially on science and technology, education and training, natural resources and environment management.
He hopes that managers, scientists and experts of Germany will exchange and share their knowledge and experience to identify and solve the existing limitations to enhance environmental protection in river basin in Vietnam. At the same time, discussions on plan and orientation will be made to strengthen cooperation between Germany and Vietnam in management of natural resources and environment.
Speaking at the forum, Mr. Gunther Adler said Germany has more than 30-year experience in management and protection of water resources of rivers.
“Nowadays, almost rivers in Germany are recovered with its chemical and biological criteria meeting the environmental standards. Many species of fish known as extinction have been appeared and people can swim at the rivers as they did before. To do that, idea, cost and commitments between stakeholders are required”, he said.
At the forum, the German experts shared experience on solutions in management of water quality of Vietnam. It is also an opportunity to enhance cooperation between the two ministries.
Participating the forum, participants were introduced with the management of water quality in Vietnam’s rivers such as industrial wastewater of Dong Nai river, wastewater of handicraft village at Cau river, and domestic wastewater at Nhue Day river.At the same time, managers, scientists, and experts of Germany exchanged experience on water management at central and local levels, integrated management of river basin, management of wastewater sources, water quality standards, and bilateral cooperation plan in the coming time.
