IUCN sends a message to protect the Ly Son Sea Turtle

After nearly two weeks, eleven old houses in the An Binh island commune, Be island, Ly Son district (Quang Ngai province) have been covered by meaningful paintings by artists from the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in collaboration with Ly Son Marine Protected Area. Each painting is a story about a "sea turtle journey," which has a profound message on sea turtles.

Mr Huynh Ngoc Dung - Deputy Director of the Management Board of Ly Son MPA, said that Ly Son district issued a policy of banning and trading sea turtles, saying no to the consumption of sea turtles. If anyone finds sea turtles, they have to the authorities to bring them to a safe place.

"More than a year, sea turtles did not appear on Ly Son Island. Now it is high time to protect and rescue the sea turtles. We hope that these drawings will contribute to raising awareness of local people in particular and tourists when visiting the marine protected area.

It is known that the Ly Son MPA is covered on an area of 8,000ha. Of which 7,000ha is water surface area and is divided into strictly protected areas, protecting ecosystems and coral reefs; Ecological restoration, protection of marine species and the surrounding area. In the marine protected area, fishing activities are strictly prohibited.
