The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and localities nationwide will organise activities to celebrate World Water Day 2018 with the theme ‘Nature for Water’ – exploring nature-based solutions to the water challenges we face in the 21st century.
World Water Day, held annually on March 22, aims to focus attention on the importance of water.
According to the ministry, among planned activities are a musical performance “ Water and Life” which will run on Việt Nam Television, exhibitions on water, nature and water-saving technology or themed conferences.
The ministry has called on cities and provinces to promote communications on saving and protecting water resources.
Damaged ecosystems affect the quantity and quality of water available for human consumption. Today, 2.1 billion people live without safe drinking water at home; affecting their health, education and livelihoods.
Sustainable Development Goal 6 commits the world to ensuring that everyone has access to safe water by 2030, and includes targets on protecting the natural environment and reducing pollution. — VNS
