Recently, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung approved the project "Socio-economic development in Con Dao district to 2020" (Decision Number 264/2005/QD-TTg). The project aims to help Con Dao to sustainably develop a modern tourism industry with a dynamic economy. At workshop "Assess strategic environment in Con Dao district", Con Dao conservation experts recommended the need to reinforce the relationship between planning and environment conservation, with a special focus on tourism. They aso raised concerns about an increase in industrial and business activities in Ben Dam habour creating marine pollution and damaging coral reef habitats and species.
