(TITC) - Hang Dau Water Tower is a 129-year-old ancient architectural work, but few Hanoians know the space inside this water tower.
Within the framework of the event "Ha Noi Creative Design Festival 2023", Hang Dau Water Tower is a special highlight of the festival. This is the first time people can visit the 129-year-old building in Ha Noi capital from a different perspective, bringing a unique and interesting experience like "awakening" heritage.
Art installation space inside Hang Dau Water Tower
Hang Dau Water Tower is located in Hang Dau Street, Quan Thanh Ward (Ba Dinh District, Ha Noi). This construction was built by the French in 1894 with the original purpose of providing clean water for French and citizens that time. The tower was designed like a three-storey fortress, with a cylindrical body and a cone-shaped corrugated iron roof. The tower is 21 m high, the diameter of the tower’s body is 19 m. The water tower had a capacity of 1,250 cubic meters. The tower was closed for decades.
Taking the main idea of water, considering water as a precious heritage, through Water Installation Space, the design team including architect Cao The Anh and artist Nguyen Duc Phuong wants to convey messages about water-related issues in urban environments. Let the ancient architectural work of Hang Dau Water Tower speak, bringing truly valuable messages, demonstrating the importance of water in our lives.

The internal structure of Hang Dau Water Tower includes 12 compartments, with 8 large compartments on the outside and 4 smaller compartments inside.
The designers relied on the Asian cultural concept of the existence of 6 types of water in nature, also known as "Luc Thuy", and then arranged works of art into 6 main compartments. Each chamber uses different sound frequencies captured directly from water droplets to create a connection between humans and the natural world.
The design team was very creative when using all recycled materials from urban society to create the installation space, it is like a modern perspective reflecting a developing society.
Hang Dau Water Tower
Starting from 17 November 2023, the water installation space and Hang Dau Water Tower Heritage Site will officially open for residents and tourists to visit until 31 December 2023.
