The Earth Hour 2023, with the theme “Saving electricity - Becoming a habit”, was held in Hanoi at 20:30, on the evening of March 25. Many streets in Hanoi simultaneously turned off their lights, while small candles were lit, as a green message towards the goal of net zero emissions by 2050, according to Vietnam’s commitment at the 26th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

Vice Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen, called on all people, agencies and businesses, to respond to the Earth Hour campaign, through specific actions, such as: turning off unnecessary electrical equipment, mobilising people to change their behaviour, and creating habits to actively protect the environment, in the residential community, towards the goal of net zero emissions by 2050.
Each year, Earth Hour gives a different message but shares the same meaning of protecting the Earth and keeping it greener. 2023 marks a 15-year journey of the Earth Hour campaign in Vietnam.

The ceremony to turn off the lights for 60 minutes, officially took place at August Revolution Square, Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi at 20:30.
Hanoi’s response to the campaign demonstrates it is a civilised and dynamic capital, with development in parallel with environmental protection.

According to statistics from the National Load Dispatch Centre, Vietnam saved 309,000 kWh of electricity, equivalent to about 576.1 million VND, after one hour of turning off the lights, in response to the Earth Hour 2022 campaign.
