(TITC) - Vietnam Tourism Association (VITA) in collaboration with the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) organized the workshop "Restoring and developing tourism labour resources in the new normal".

VITA’s Chairman Vu The Binh said that human resources are a vital factor for the economic sector, especially for the tourism industry. The challenge when starting to recover the tourism industry is how to gather the tourism workforce, retrain the old employees and provide suitable training for new ones.
The Covid-19 pandemic has changed a lot in thinking and acting in the new period. New factors such as safety, environment, and digital transformation will be introduced into the training courses.
Speaking at the workshop, VNAT’s Vice Chairman Pham Van Thuy shared that over the past two years, the tourism industry has faced challenges due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Many businesses have had to close, tourism workers became unemployed or change jobs.
Vietnam has reopened tourism activities since March 15, 2022, opening a chance for the tourism industry to recover and regain its growth. Increasing the quantity and improving the quality of human resources is an urgent requirement in the context of the new normal. The workshop is an opportunity to summary the current situation and finds solutions to improve the quality of tourism human resources in the coming time.
At the workshop, General Director of the Training Department (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism – MOSCT) Le Anh Tuan said that MOSCT has issued 7 sets of national occupational skill standards, jointly developed by MOSCT, VNAT and enterprises.
MOSCT proposed to Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs issued 13 sets of output criteria, a list of key national occupations including restaurant management, reception, catering management, travel, eco-tourism, tour guide, hotel management...
MOSCT also has assigned relevant units to develop a project to develop tourism human resources under the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, period 2021-2030 that was issued on December 31, 2021.

In the program, the delegates listened to a presentation by Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Dinh on the issues posed to tourism human resources in the period of opening up and restoring the tourism industry; by Ms. Nguyen Thanh Binh (Deputy Director of the Hospitality Department) with a presentation on innovation and quality improvement of tourism human resources in accommodation establishments.
In addition, representatives of Hanoi Tourism College, Hanoi Open University, and Imperial International Hotel College shared about the tourism training models. Silk Path Hotel, Hotel De L'Opera informed current situation of human resources.
