Japan helps grow mangrove forests

Almost 4 ha of saline-submerged land in Ninh Hoa district, the central coastal province of Khanh Hoa, were put under mangrove between July 25-27 under a Japan-Vietnam afforestation programme.The programme was carried out by the Action for Mangrove Reforestation (ACTMANG) of Japan in coordination Japan ’s Tokio Marine, the Centre for Research of Environment and Natural Resources under the Hanoi National University and Khanh Hoa province.It was aimed at recovering mangrove forests in countries coping with risks of saline intrusion into the mainland.Since 1992, the programme has helped grow over 2,500 ha of mangrove forests in coastal cities and provinces of Vietnam . The total area included about 20 ha in Khanh Hoa province.-Enditem
