On May 17, in Quang Ninh, Vice Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Quy Kien and Standing Vice Chairman of Quang Ninh People's Committee Dang Huy Hau chaired the meeting to agree on the plan to organize the Vietnam Sea and Islands Week (June 1-8) and World Oceans Day (June 8).

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister Tran Quy Kien said that the organization of the Sea and Islands Week and activities in response to World Oceans Day have special meaning to propagate, educate and raise awareness of the position and importance of the sea and islands in the cause of national construction and defense. In addition, the event will be an occasion to honor the values of the Oceanss for the well-being of humanity, conveying messages on the protection of natural resources, the marine environment and the islands to organizations, individuals and the community to take practical actions to preserve and promote the values of marine l resources and environment for the sustainable development of the country.
Reporting at the meeting, Ta Dinh Thi, Acting Director General of Vietnam Sea and Islands Administration said that the preparation for the Vietnam Sea and Islands Week and the activities in response to the World Oceans Day2018, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has been actively coordinating with the ministries, central agencies and localities to carry out these important events.
The Sea and Islands Week 2018 will be held with two main activities: Gala in response to the Sea and Islands Week and activities in response to World Oceans Day 2018, combining the talkshow entitle “The Youth with sustainable development and protection of the sovereignty of the sea and islands of Vietnam"; organization of the Sea and Islands Week and celebrating World Oceans Day 2018 at the selected sites (Truong Sa, Quang Ninh, Quang Tri, Bac Lieu).
According to Ta Dinh Thi, the two activities will be meaningful programs to provide information, knowledge, guidelines and policies of the Party and State on activities to respond to the Vietnam Sea and Islands Week; introduce the sea and island protection models and activities of social concern in the whole country and raising the awareness, understanding and responsibility of the community for the cause of protection of marine and island resources as well as protection of the sovereignty at sea.
Speaking at the meeting, Standing Vice Chairman of Quang Ninh People's Committee Dang Huy Hau said that this is a great event attended by senior government officials, Quang Ninh province was honored to be chosen as the venue for the Vietnam Sea and Islands Week and its activities in response to World Oceanss Day 2018. In coordination with the organization, Quang Ninh province agrees with the solutions proposed by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and assigned the Department of Natural Resources and Environment as the focal point of the province in coordination with other units to advise the provincial People's Committee to implement the overall program.
In addition, Vice Chairman Dang Huy Hau said that in order to have a contagious and practical event, communication work should be focused and coordinated with news agencies throughout the country to perform the task of propaganda. The security, health care and promotion activities will be prioritized by the provincial leaders at the time of the event.
