(TITC) - Thanh Lan is an island commune in the Co To Archipelago of Quang Ninh Province. The commune has an area of 18.2 km2, located 4km from the centre of Co To island district by sea. Thanh Lan is the largest island in the Co To Archipelago, and has an important position in the national defence and security strategy of the sea and islands.
Thanh Lan's natural forest is about 2,000 hectares, well protected and preserved, including primaeval forests with beautiful grasslands in the shade of chõi forests (A plant with flexible, tough stems, early branching, and resistant to wind, waves and sea sand) and pineapple forests. Thanh Lan is convenient for the development of exploration tourism along with activities such as camping, swimming, diving to see coral, fishing, squid fishing, snail catching… High hilly terrain with the characteristics of low mountains, steep slopes, asymmetry, and strong division; plains are distributed alternately between mountainous areas. The beach has long, relatively flat sand beaches with a height of 2 - 6m, an average slope of 0 - 33m, made up of medium-grained sand, creating favourable conditions for the development of swimming tourism. Abrasive stone fields appear everywhere, the area is quite large. Due to high tidal fluctuations, there is often confusion between floating and underground rocks. This type of terrain develops in the north of Thanh Lan island and Tran island, creating beautiful natural scenes. Thanh Lan Island is composed of fairly homogeneous sediments, with a Northeast - Southwest structural direction.

The Thanh Lan sea area has biodiversity with many typical ecosystems of tropical waters, including a rich coral reef ecosystem. On the island there are many beautiful, pristine beaches with clear blue water, fine white sand, sedimentary rocks of many different shapes, the rocks here are smooth and moss-free, retaining the original rock colour. The natural forests are preserved almost intact, the tropical forest ecosystem on the island is rare, including beautiful primaeval forests under the shade of chõi and pineapple forests, which are convenient for tourism activities of exploration, trekking, camping. In particular, the coral reefs here are being protected strictly and the locality is perfecting the essential conditions to develop into a unique tourism product in Thanh Lan, forming a chain of Co To tourism products, promising to be a product that attracts domestic and foreign tourists to participate. Thanh Lan people are gentle and have a diverse cuisine with fresh and nutritious natural seafood. With the above characteristics, Thanh Lan is not only a destination for sightseeing, relaxation, and swimming, but also attracts the attention of tourists with scientific research needs from all over the country and the world.
