(TITC) - On 2nd November 2022, in Siem Reap, Cambodia, the 1st ACMECS and CLMV Tourism Dialogue took place in the framework of the 5th Meeting of ACMECS Tourism Ministers and the 6th Meeting of CLMV Tourism Ministers. Mr. Ha Van Sieu, Vice Chairman of Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) attended the Dialogue.

The Dialogue was organised under the theme “Tourism development towards a more sustainability and resilience”, initiated by Cambodia.

The Dialogue created a forum for representatives from ACMECS, CLMV tourism government agencies, international and regional experts in tourism, representatives of tourism businesses, NGOs, universities, academies, tourism associations and relevant public-private partnerships to share and discuss about the future of tourism in a more sustainable, flexible and inclusive approach, considering the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the tourism sector in the region. This is also an opportunity for tourism businesses and the private sector in the ACMECS and CLMV sub-regions to build networks and meet face-to-face after nearly 2 years of hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Discussion Session at the Dialogue
The Dialogue was divided into 2 main sessions. Session 1 includes presentations of representatives from the five ACMECS national tourism agencies. Ms. Do Thi Thanh Hoa, Vice Director of Institute for Tourism Development Research (under VNAT), recommends necessary policies to support the tourism industry, the need to strengthen cooperation in the sub-region and people-centred tourism, and strengthen digital transformation in tourism.
Overview of the Dialogue
Session 2 was the discussion session. Attending the session were 8 experts from businesses, tourism associations, development partners, private sector, non-governmental organisations (NGOs)... On the Vietnamese side, Chief Technical Consultant of Foundation for International Development/Relief (FIDR) Tran Thi Thu Oanh, NGO representatives participated in the discussion at the Dialogue. Experts shared and discussed the role of public-private partnership, effective public-private partnership, and solutions to develop tourism in ACMECS and CLMV areas towards more sustainability and resilience.
