Northwest Culture Tourism Week 2023 is being held at Ninh Kieu Park in Can Tho city, one of many activities to promote and connect tourism between the northwest region and the southern Mekong Delta.

Typical tourism products of eight northwestern provinces plus Ho Chi Minh City and Can Tho have been introduced through a photo exhibition entitled “Northwest Snapshots” and art programs showcasing the culture, music, and dances of ethnic groups in Vietnam’s northwestern mountains.
Ha Van Thang, Director of the Lao Cai provincial Department of Tourism, said the eight northwestern provinces are Hoa Binh, Son La, Dien Bien, Lai Chau, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Ha Giang, and Phu Tho.
The region’s great tourism potential includes Mount Fansipan, dubbed “the roof of Indochina”, and Sa Pa, “the town in the clouds”, in Lao Cai province; the Mu Cang Chai terraced fields in Yen Bai province; Pa Khoang lake and Muong Phang forest, a nature reserve with rare plants and animals, in Dien Bien province; and Mai Chau valley and Moc Chau plateau.

Tourism cooperation between the northwestern and Mekong Delta provinces will create unique tourism routes and offer new opportunities for businesses to invest in tourism.
Mr. Thang said, “We are prepared to connect tourism, culture, industry, and trade. For example, we can bring the music and singing of the southern people to Lao Cai or the ethnic art troupes of Lao Cai province to the southern region. In an orchard in the Mekong Delta one can listen to the panpipes and flutes of Sa Pa’s Mong people, and in Sa Pa one can enjoy the don ca tai tu of the southerners.”
Dao Thi Thanh Thuy, Director of Can Tho city’s Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, said the Mekong Delta has many interesting things to offer.
“We’ll connect tours and explore new tourism routes for the Mekong Delta’s development. One of our priorities is to connect with the northwestern region.”
Tourism collaboration between the northwestern and southwestern provinces will create a chain of tourism services, diversify products, and promote the tourism brands of the two regions.
