Binh Thuan: Whale-worshipping festival in 2023 held for the sake of locals and tourists

Update: 21/07/2023
The opening ceremony of the Cau Ngu (Whale-worshipping) festival in 2023 will take place on August 5th night which falls on the Lunar June 19th.

The official ritual is expected to start from August 6 to August 8 at Van Thuy Tu temple (in Duc Thang ward, Phan Thiet City). In recent days, many preparations for this important event are undergone and rushed to complete before the deadline.

This old-aged traditional festival is yearly held by the local residents to pray for peaceful fishing journeys, mild sea waves, and bumper harvests. At the same time, the festival is considered a great motivation and encouragement for the fishermen to cling to the sea, and protect the national sovereignty over seas and islands.

Following the success of 2007’s city-scale festival, this year’s festival is re-settled with a wide range of special and large-scale activities. Particularly, there will be 180 stalls displaying various products and specialties at the event. Besides, some awesome art performances will be held on the nights of August 5th-8th, 2023.
