Vinh Phuc: Prioritising Local Tourism Development

Update: 11/12/2013
Emerged as three islands on the sky, the three peaks of Tam Dao Mountain Range, namely Phu Nghia, Thach Ban and Thach Son at an altitude of 1,500 metres, have long been the most popular tourist destination in Vietnam’s northern province of Vinh Phuc. This land is a gentle silk ribbon that connects the country’s northern mountainous provinces with Hanoi and northern lowland provinces.

Vinh Phuc province has three typical terrains: highland, midland and lowland. The volcanic mountainous terrain of Vinh Phuc province is tied to Tam Dao Mountain Range, stretching 30 kilometres southeast starting from Dao Tru commune and ending in Ngoc Thanh commune, with many peaks higher than 1,000 metres. Midland terrain features Sang Mountain, 600 metres high, in Dong Que and Lang Cong communes (Lap Thach district).

Valleys and river mudflats which are primarily formed by erosion impacts of water currents are fertile alluvial sources for farming. The province has dense river and lake systems, which provide not only economic values but also beautiful landscapes for tourism development.

Vinh Phuc province is also known for being home to numerous spiritual masterpieces while the beauty of this land is deeply rooted in the minds of visitors when they come here. Despite impacts from man and nature, ancient cultures are still handed down from generation to generation. Many families in the countryside are still keeping household utensils made from stone like mills. The existence of ancient houses has become more significant with the passage of time. In many villages, traditional trades which have been handed down through generations are now the major sources of income for villagers.

Nature endows this place with many scenic spots, including Tam Dao Mountain Range, Tay Thien Pagoda, Hai Ba Trung Temple, Truc Lam Monastery and Dai Lai Lake. Sang Mountain, which lies in Dong Que and Lang Cong communes in Song Lo district at an altitude of over 630 metres, is constituted by dozens of smaller mounts. In the forest live many precious plants and flowers.

Blessed with many favourable factors for the development of many tourism forms like cultural tourism, spiritual tourism and recreational tourism, Vinh Phuc province has worked out a master plan for tourist route development, focusing on tapping local advantages.

The tourism sector of Vinh Phuc province is now seeking support from the provincial government to turn tourism into an economic spearhead. The sector is thus mobilising all available resources for tourism development, both direct investment into tourism or indirect investment into tourism via other sectors. The province will develop more tourism products, intensify scientific research application to tourism product development and encourage scientific and technological application to tourism development. The province will help tourism companies apply science and technology to tap local tourism potentials and advantages, encourage them to participate in tourism human resources training and raise public awareness of sustainable tourism development.

In addition, the province will actively enhance integration and international cooperation to promote commercial and tourism potential, attracting investment for tourism development, environmental resource protection, conservation and promotion of cultural value, sustainable tourism development.
