Tuy An, the land rich in cultural heritages

Recently, 20 mango trees in the historical-art relics of Tu Quang pagoda have been recently acknowledged Vietnam heritage trees, which once more proves the richness in cultural heritage on Tuy An land. Lots of cultural heritages on this land have become the cultural-spiritual symbols for Phu Yen people.

In Phu Yen, 18 relics, scenic spots have been acknowledged national level relics, and 7 of which are in Tuy An; together with 6 provincial level relics. Tuy An is the locality with the largest number of relics in the province’s cultural heritages. Almost every place in Tuy An has some architectural, historical, cultural works, also the patriotic spirits of fighting against invaders of Phu Yen people are remained, reminding of the young generations. Furthermore, annually at the beginning of spring, people from many corners of life converge into Tuy An to experience such festivals as Thi Thung horse race, Le Thanh Phuong temple and shrine, Tu Quang pagoda festival with lots of traditional folk games like tug-of-war, stilt walking, stick pushing…as such the local inhabitants’ historical traditions are forever handed on. 

As far as Tuy An cultural heritages are concerned, it’s a must to mention the stone musical instruments (discovered in Mot Mountain, An Nghiep commune) and stone bugles (discovered in Phu Can hamlet, An Tho commune), which are two sets of ancient musical instruments with standard gamuts among the same type archeological relics in Vietnam, these instruments are being proposed by the PPC to acknowledge national precious objects. These do not only symbolize the culture of the land but also bear great artistic, scientific values, and this has opened up lots of interesting things that attract scientists, cultural, musical researchers who come to Phu Yen to do research, among whom are Professor cum musical Doctor Tran Quang Hai (the son of Professor Tran Van Khe), from the French national scientific research center. Tuy An stone musical instruments and bugles are particular products created by the mind and the hands of Phu Yen ancient people, and these creations have crossed the border of Vietnam to be renowned among international friends. 

Recently, in November 2013, the cluster of 20 mango trees in the historical-art relics of Tu Quang pagoda produce sweet and nicely scent fruits to “donate” to King was acknowledged Vietnam heritage trees by the Association of protecting nature and environment. One more time, Tuy An has become an attraction appealing to tourists who have the great passion in cultural tourism. 

Da Dia reef national scenic spot, a stone mountain with strangely natural structure with straightly hexagonal rocks, forming close columns like giant piles of plates intentionally arranged to have fun with sea waves; O Loan lagoon national scenic spot bears the beauty of one phoenix stretching its wing but still being attached to the land while striving far offshore. There are numerous types of precious stones like blood oysters, clams, King crabs, …On the 7th of January lunar calendar, O Loan lagoon boat racing festival attracts thousands of tourists from near and far converging here to enjoy seafood. 

Tuy An district’s people’s committee has approved the scheme of managing heritages-scenic spots in the province to fundamentally solve the requirements of preserving cultural heritages in combination with social-economic development; creating the foundations for orientating the preservation and value development in the direction of socialization; encouraging and creating favorable conditions for organizations and individuals that have heritages to join in the protection and development of heritage value. Mr. Le Van Bang, head of Tuy An district division of culture-information, let known: the implementation of level-classifying and managing scheme is aimed at enhancing the efficiency of preserving, solidifying and developing the historical values; provincial heritages are directly managed by the localities to help minimize the limitations in dissemination at the heritages, as well as the degradation occurring to the life-long historical vestiges, and this means the necessity of joined efforts by the inhabitant community. The district division of culture-informatics is consulting Tuy An district’s people’s committee to recover the stone musical instruments and bugles, which are the soul of Tuy An land, together with the intangible cultural heritages, and these are definitely the plentiful property which Tuy An district’s cultural sector is making every possible effort to preserve and advertise.

It can be said that Tuy An district is the cultural cradle of Phu Yen province, meeting the demand of admiring the peoples’ culture and education. The treasure of cultural heritages in Tuy An district will be surely the very fertile land for developing cultural tourism, with the proper and sufficient attention, care and investments from the related sectors.
