Thung Nham ecotourist site - a fairyland of Ninh Binh ancient capital

Visiting Thung Nham in February and March or August and September, visitors will have chance to contemplate the most beautiful scenery of this place. At this time, the weather is suitable to enjoy pure and primary landscape, with lakes surrounded by untouched green forests that look like a fairy land on earth.

Thung Nham ecotourist site – also called Thung Chim (Valley of Birds), is home to nearly 50 bird species with about 50,000 individuals as storks, accentors… and rare birds which have been listed in Viet Nam Red Book such as Giang sen (Mycteria leucocephala), flamingos, phoenix… If visitors can stay in Thung Chim at twilight, they can see each flock of birds flying back to their nest with animated chatter creating a special symphony of nature.

Rowing boat through the mangrove forest, visitors can watch pristine caves hiding in rocks. Vai Gioi Cave was said to be a place to pray for prosperity, good harvests and weather. To contemplate mysterious stalactites, visitors have to pass over 439 stone steps to Vai Gioi Cave entrance. But Cave – a stone cave with height of 50m and length of 500m, is not far from Vai Gioi Cave. Next cave is Tien Ca - an exquisitely artistic painting of nature mother beneath water.

Going ashore, visitors will see a large garden with 80,000 m2 area with variety tropical fruit trees and primeval forests with diversity of fauna and flora. In addition, the moving Banyan tree in Goi Dai Temple is also a must-see destination in Thung Nham. The tree had moved 3 times around this temple. According to scientists, every move of the tree needs 300 years.
