Although it is two more months until the fifth Dalat Flower Festival, many travel companies are doing brisk trade with current tours to the Central Highlands city.
Those who have a chance to visit Dalat should not miss a popular venue in the city downtown with a special name cho Am phu (hell market).
The market’s name was born in the days when there was no lighting system in the area from Hoa Binh Street to Dalat Market. The market with diversified products is open from 5 p.m. onwards.
From a distance, tourists can recognize the market with the delicious smell of food vaporizing in the air. Some rustic but delicious cuisine available is boiled corn, grilled sweet potatoes, grilled squid/chicken/beef/sausage on a coal fire for authentic taste, porridge and pho (Vietnamese noodle).
A popular treat for young people is banh trang nuong (grilled rice paper cake), the food is both crispy and tastes of egg. Other highlights are hot soya drink, mung bean drink and egg milkshake. The perfect combination to these drinks is delicious homemade cakes.
Those who want to go shopping to stay warm during the cold nights can also buy bedwear, sweaters, hoodies, scarves and woolen hats in the market.
Tourists who are tired of shopping can wander around Ho Xuan Huong Lake to enjoy the cold breeze and animated surroundings. Or they can pass by a popular café named Tung to sip a cup of hot coffee.
If you are dazzled by Dalat’s romance in daylight, bustling Dalat at night will be another interesting feature that’s worth checking out.
