VNAT and local tourism departments discuss on tour guide supporting

(TITC) - On August 31, in Hanoi, Chairman of Vietnam National Administration of Tourism Nguyen Trung Khanh chaired an online meeting with Departments of Tourism, tourism associations, tour guide associations of provinces/cities in Ha Noi, Quang Ninh, Thua Thien Hue, Da Nang, Khanh Hoa, Ho Chi Minh City on implementing activities to support tour guides facing difficulties due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

These localities are tourism hubs with number of tour guides accounting for about 70% of total tour guides in Viet Nam.

Speaking at the meeting, Chairman Nguyen Trung Khanh said that, based on Resolution 68/NQ-CP of Government and Decision 23/2021/QD-TTg of Prime Minister on supporting employees and employers facing difficulties due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) have issued a series of documents to promptly guide localities to implement activities to support the tour guides.

After more than a month of implementation, thousands of tour guides have received a support package. There are two localities that have supported many guides, namely Da Nang (over 1,200 tour guides) and Thua Thien Hue (over 500 tour guides), according to Mr. Nguyen Quy Phuong, Director of the Department of Travel (under VNAT).

In the meeting, the delegates also suggested that it is necessary to expand support to those in the tourism industry who are facing difficulties such as workers in tourist accommodation establishments, travel agencies and travel transport establishments …

Chairman Nguyen Trung Khanh said that VNAT will synthesize the opinions of localities, associations to finalize a report and submit to the leaders of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to propose solutions to simplifying procedures and consider support for some other worker groups.
