(TITC) - On September 10, the Prime Minister agreed with the proposal of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on a pilot plan to welcome international tourists to Phu Quoc (Kien Giang Province). The pearl island is considered an ideal place for reopening to international tourists after a long pause due to the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Phu Quoc is the largest tourist island in Viet Nam. This destination is known as the Pearl Island to the southwest of the country, attracting a lot of tourists as well as big investors. With its unique values, Phu Quoc has been listed among leading destinations by prestigious media channels in the world, such as CNN (USA) voting Phu Quoc among Asia’s Best Destinations in 2019, Time magazine (USA) listing Phu Quoc one of the World’s 100 Greatest Places of 2021…

A paradise of beach resorts and ecotourism
With 150km of coastline, Phu Quoc boasts many beautiful beaches stretching from the north to the south. Coming here, visitors will be attracted by the pristine and wonderful beauty of such beaches as Bai Sao (Star Beach), Bai Khem, Bai Truong (Long Beach). They can enjoy the brilliant sun on fine sand beside a sparkling sea, the fresh air, water sports activities, sunrise and sunset.
In particular, Bai Dai is famous as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world with stunning natural landscape, brightly glitter sand, great old forests spreading out to the sea and beautiful mangrove ecosystems at small estuaries. The marine ecosystem of Phu Quoc is also very diverse with coral reefs of different shapes and sizes shimmering and sparkling under the clear sea water. In addition, the fish fauna in the coral reefs is also very abundant, including some rare species such as: giant clams, tectus niloticus, eretmochelys imbricate (sea turtle)... Phu Quoc is also endowed with many other valuable seafood groups such as shrimp, squid, crabs, snails, pearl mussels, blood cockles, scallops, silk clams, octopus, sea cucumbers, seahorses...
Besides, Phu Quoc National Park has a diverse forest ecosystem with the area of over 31,422 hectares. The flora here is mainly evergreen forest growing on low mountainous terrain, with several hundred species and precious medicinal herbs. The fauna includes dozens of mammal species, some of which are recorded in the Viet Nam Red Book, the IUCN Red List.
Developed tourism service infrastructure
In recent years, thanks to many preferential policies, Phu Quoc has become a hub of investment flows with the involvement of strategic investors such as Vingroup, Sun Group, BIM, CEO Group... The transportation infrastructure on the island has also been developed for tourism development.

Phu Quoc International Airport has the capacity of receiving 2-3 million international passengers per year, currently can host 7-8 landings and take-offs per hour (4 domestic flights and 3-4 international flights per hour).
Phu Quoc also has high-quality car rental companies, exclusively serving international tourists in the pilot phase, ready to serve about 5,000 - 10,000 tourists.
In particular, tourism service infrastructure in Phu Quoc has been strongly invested, leading to the launch of world-class projects. Phu Quoc City currently has more than 20,000 accommodation rooms with 16 five-star hotels, 7 four-star hotels, 7 three-star hotels and many other large-scale accommodation establishments. Tourists coming to Phu Quoc will have chance to experience diverse entertainment sites such as Vinpearl, Sunworld, casino, night market, Safari, cable car, walking street, golf course. Especially, Vingroup has just put into operation the “sleepless city” of Grand World.

Regarding medical service, Vinmec Hospital and City Medical Center are ready to serve the pilot reopening to tourism, able to test for more than 200 tourists per day and provide treatment in case of infection. The qualified medical isolation hotels will be used for isolation of suspected cases. In addition, with the population of around 200,000 people, it is not difficult for Phu Quoc to roll out the vaccination campaign.
It is expected that the pilot plan of reopening Phu Quoc to tourism will be successful, creating momentum to the recovery of Viet Nam’s tourism in the coming time.
