(TITC) - On September 23, Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism had online meeting with People’s Committee of Kien Giang Province and Phu Quoc Island City aiming to implement the pilot plan to reopen international tourism in Phu Quoc.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister Doan Van Viet emphasized the key role of Kien Giang Province in developing detailed plan to welcome international tourists to Phu Quoc. Recently, there were some COVID-19 infected cases in Phu Quoc, so it is necessary to prepare carefully and control the pandemic.
Mr. Nguyen Luu Trung, Vice Chairman of People’s Committee of Kien Giang Province said after COVID-19 infection cases were found, the provincial authorities held meeting with local leaders and decided to zone off and trace down these cases.
Reporting about pilot plan to reopen international tourism, Mr. Bui Quoc Thai, Director of Kien Giang Department of Tourism said the province has been selecting qualified tourism and travel establishments, proposed the appropriate tourist routes and attractions for visitors. Tour programs for international tourists are designed separately, ensuring safety against pandemic.
Besides that, he proposed the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and VNAT to organize the training courses on the application of information technology in immigration procedures, vaccination certification, and journey control. He also proposed the Ministry of Health to issue special regulations on vaccination certificates, isolation, medical incident; the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to authenticate the legitimacy of vaccination certificates of visitors; the Ministry of Public Security to issue the entry and exit process, visitor flows; the Civil Aviation Authority - Ministry of Transport to issue the regulations on air passenger transportation and to grant flight permit; the National Electronic Authentication Center - Ministry of Information and Communications to support the electronic authentication of international vaccination certificates.

VNAT has built a communication and promotion plan focusing on Phu Quoc and has developed Vietnam Safe Travel app which integrates the Covid-19 safety registration and declaration system for tourism business establishments and application system on vaccination certificate for international tourists.
A working group to implement the pilot plan was established, led by VNAT’s Chairman and had the participation of leaders of VNAT, leaders of relevant departments and functional units.
Deputy Minister Doan Van Viet emphasized that the implementation of dual goals in the tourism industry will start from Phu Quoc Island City, Kien Giang and will be expand to other localities of Vietnam. Therefore, the pilot plan reopening for international visitors to Phu Quoc plays a very important role.
