Giant ’green’ painting to break record

Update: 02/12/2009
The Record Painting about Environment Drawing Festival to be held on Sunday by the Go Green Club as a chance for the city’s youth to get involved in environmental protection activities.

The activity is part of the Go Green programme launched and jointly organised by Toyota Motorbike Viet Nam, the Environment General Department and the Ministry of Education and Training.

The festival intends to raise public awareness about protecting the Vietnamese environment to help especially young people develop an overall view about environmental pollution and prompt behavioural change to make a greener country.

Inspired by the idea of students and teachers from the Ha Noi College of Industrial Fine Arts, the painting in the form of the letter U will measure 112m long and 1.5m high to win the Viet Nam Guinness title for the largest painting about the environment. The title used to belong to a 100m long and 1.4m high painting in Nha Trang.

The painting includes three parts devoted to problems, solutions and the future. Along two sides of the painting are images about existing environmental challenges that Viet Nam faces and suggestions how to deal with the problems. At the heart of the painting, drawers are encouraged to express their hopes for a better future and a more beautiful, greener world.

Festival organisers hope that the programme will attract over 400 volunteers from 20 environment clubs, universities and colleges in Ha Noi.

The painting will begin this Sunday at 8am to 4pm at the Ha Noi University of Technology’s Centre of Sports and Culture, 42 Ta Quang Buu Street, Hanoi.
