(TITC) - Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) organized the workshop on building model of tourism development in the direction of green growth for the Northwest region on November 30, in Ha Noi.
Local departments of tourism of Hoa Binh, Son La, Dien Bien, Lai Chau, Lao Cai, Yen Bai provinces also online attended the workshop.
Green growth is a term to describe a hypothetical path of economic growth that is environmentally sustainable. It is closely related to the concepts of green economy and low-carbon or sustainable development.
Ms. Pham Le Thao, Deputy Director of Travel Department (under VNAT) said that the Northwest region has potential and advantage to develop tourism toward green growth.
Among the tourism models in the direction of green growth and sustainability of the Northwest, there are two typical models including community tourism and rural agro-tourism. The highlight of these two models is the attachment to local community, bringing many benefits in economic restructuring, environmental protection, cultural conservation, and promotion of unique cultural traits of local ethnic groups.

These are community-based tourist sites, homestays in Sa Pa Town, Bat Xat, Bac Ha districts (Lao Cai Province); Nghia Lo, Van Chan, Mu Cang Chai districts (Yen Bai Province); Lai Chau Province… and services like herbal bath of the Red Dao ethnic group (Ta Phin Village, Sa Pa), decoration embroidery on costumes, fine-art handicrafts…

Representative of Culture and Information Division of Sa Pa Town (Lao Cai Province) shared that Sa Pa is considered a bright spot of community-based tourism in the Northwest mountains. Sa Pa has focused on developing the main pillars including preserving culture, protecting the environment and ensuring social security. The most successful is the Ta Phin community tourism village with many cultural activities, diverse tourism products that attracted a large number of tourists.
