Mong Ethnic Cultural Festival to kick off in Lai Chau on December 24

The third Mong Ethnic Cultural Festival 2021 will take place in the northern province of Lai Chau from December 24 to 26, heard a press conference held in Hanoi on December 16.

The festival is co-hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Lai Chau provincial People’s Committee under the theme ‘Preserving and promoting cultural identity of Mong ethnic group: Equality, Solidarity, Integration and Development’.

It aims to honour the culture of an ethnic group which is rich in traditions, while safeguarding and upholding the cultural identity of Mong people in a unified and diverse Vietnamese culture of 54 ethnic groups.

The event will gather Mong ethnic communities from 12 provinces including Lai Chau, Lao Cai, Ha Giang, Yen Bai, Tuyen Quang, Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Lang Son, Dien Bien, Dak Lak, Thanh Hoa, and Hoa Binh.

A wide range of activities will be organised within the framework of the event, including a fair displaying cultural and tourism products, a ‘giay’ (glutinous rice cake) making contest, the reproduction of traditional cultural rituals and festivals of Mong people, folk art performances, a show of ethnic clothes, and a paragliding festival.
