Honouring Ha Long Bay, the World Heritage - A New Wonder of the world at Dubai EXPO 2020

(TITC) - On 12th February 2022, Ha Long Bay World Heritage Week - A New Wonder of the World at Dubai EXPO 2020 was officially started with various magnificent activities to promote and honour the world heritage, and has been recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site twice.

The two highlights of the Ha Long Bay World Heritage Week - A New Wonder of the World is the honouring event held at the Vietnam Pavilion and the art performance collaboration of 6 countries on EXPO 2020 biggest outdoor stage. 

Giving out a speech at the event, Mr. Nguyen Manh Tuan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Vietnam to UAE emphasised, as an important and well-known heritage site of Vietnam, Ha Long Bay possesses majestic scenery with thousands of large and small islands and magnetic caves system. It is the cradle of Viet ancient residences, embrace many important vestiges in the formation and development of earth's history. Ha Long Bay is a high biodiversity place with typical ecosystems and thousands of plants and animals species. Besides, this destination is associated with cultural and heroic history values of the Vietnamese nation.

In 1994, UNESCO recognised Ha Long Bay as a World Natural Heritage site. In 2000, once again Ha Long Bay was recognised twice for its global special values of geology. In 2011, it was voted as one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature.  

Director of the Vietnam Pavilion, Ms. Phung Thi Thanh Thuy shared a welcome message on behalf of the Management Board of Ha Long Bay at Dubai EXPO 2020, a warm invitation to all Middle Eastern and international tourists to Vietnam and admire in person the beauty of one of the most charming bays of the world.

At the ceremony, Ambassador Nguyen Manh Tuan and the guests witnessed the debut of landmarks new wonder of the world - a special navigation signs with direction signs announce the distance from Dubai City (where EXPO 2020 event occurs) to sites and monuments in the list of New 7 wonders of the World, including Ha Long Bay, with outstanding colours designed. It is expected that the sign will become the favourite destination for check-in at the Vietnam Pavilion, at the same time, offering visitors a grand opportunity to learn more about the new wonders of the world, Ha Long Bay.  

Another grand event is in expectation for the Ha Long Bay World Heritage Week - A New Wonder of the World is the art show at Jubilee stage, EXPO 2020. It was an idea from Vietnam to gather 6 countries including Vietnam, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Cuba and Indonesia in collaboration to honour and promote the Natural and Artificial wonders of the motherland such as Komodo Island (Indonesia),Havana City (Cuba), Iguaçu Falls (Brazil and Argentina), Christ the Redeemer (Brazil), Amazon River and Rainforest (Colombia and 8 Latin American countries)...

Under the coordination of the Vietnam Pavilion, for the very first time at Dubai EXPO 2022, the audiences were able to enjoy masterpieces of art performances from 6 countries on the same stage. From the elegant of Vietnamese traditional instruments, the fascinating tango dance of Argentina, the flaming exciting ambiance of the Brazil costume carnival, the colourful Balinese traditional art (Indonesia), to the joyful Colombia national dance and swaying in the Caribbean melodies of Cuba music band… all together creating a unforgettable night at EXPO 2020 and was live worldwide.

In the World Heritage week framework, there were other fascinating activities such as extraordinary tours to exhibition halls with new wonders of the world, introducing Vietnamese cuisine and coffee, and video shows about Ha Long…

On 1st October 2021, Vietnam time, the Vietnam Pavilion at Dubai EXPO 2020 (UAE) was officially lifted the curtain. The Vietnam Pavilion was operated by the Department of International Cooperation (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism - MOCST), focusing on promoting and honouring the quintessence of national culture and traditions, and Vietnam’s state-of-the-art in the fields of creativity, science and technology.

As the first World Expo held in the Middle East, Dubai EXPO 2020 attracts the participants of more than 190 countries and major international organisations. Despite of the delay due to the impact of COVID-19, the host country decided to keep the name and continue to devote more resources to this event with the expectation that Dubai EXPO 2020 will welcome 25 million visitor arrivals and become a major milestone marking the recovery of the region and the world post the COVID-19 pandemic.
