Ca Mau province is actively coordinating with the Vietnam Forest Protection Department to launch the Project on Sustainable Management of Peat Soil Ecosystems in U Minh Ha National Park - SUPA Project for short.
The project is invested by the Vietnam Forest Protection Department and is funded by GIZ Indonesia with a non-refundable capital of USD 847,000. The implementation period of the SUPA project is from 2021 to 2023.
The goal of the project is to improve the management efficiency and preserve the peatland ecosystem on U Minh Ha land in the direction of adapting to climate change for sustainable development in the future. At the same time, the project is completely in line with Vietnam's commitments on haze pollution control and contributes to the conservation and sustainable management of peatland ecosystems.
Thereby strengthening the protection and restoration of forest ecosystems on degraded peatland in U Minh Ha National Park; supporting livelihood development, raising awareness for stakeholders about the value, role and function of peatland and peatland ecosystems in sustainable development and response to climate change.
The direct beneficiary of the project is U Minh Ha National Park. In addition, the community living in the buffer zone of the Park will also benefit from activities supporting livelihood development, water management models to adapt to climate change.
U Minh Ha National Park has an area of peat land about 3,000 hectares. This is a very important ecosystem, with high biodiversity and very valuable for conservation. Forest ecosystems on peatlands in U Minh Ha National Park have the ability to regulate climate, store carbon, provide water and mitigate negative impacts from climate change.
