(TITC) - On 18th May, the Forum “Green Stream” for tourism to take off with the 2nd special subject “Digital transformation - driving force for sustainable development” took place in Ha Noi. This event was organised by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) in collaboration with the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT). Mr. Nguyen Le Phuc, VNAT’s Vice Chairman co-chaired the Forum.

Giving the online welcome speech, Mr. Hoang Quang Phong - Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) indicated that digital transformation helps travel businesses to adapt flexibly to the changing of the market. The tourism industry has taken the initiative in transforming digitally and actively participating in the 4th Industrial Revolution, with the goal of moving towards the formation of a smart tourism ecosystem that connects stakeholders including visitors, service providers, and state management agencies.
“To succeed in digital transformation, it may take a couple of years but it can't be delayed any longer. The COVID-19 pandemic left bad mark but also creating opportunity for businesses and tourism industry to transform, catch up with the world's irreversible trend of digital transformation”, Mr. Phong added.

VNAT’s Vice Chairman Nguyen Le Phuc stated, digital transformation is one of the topics that received much attention in the tourism industry. This is an inevitable trend for the tourism industry in the context of the 4th Industrial Revolution and the profound effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Digital transformation brings up opportunities for the tourism industry to develop sustainably.
According to Mr. Nguyen Le Phuc, implementing the guidelines and policies of the Government, VNAT has focused to build up a smart tourism ecosystem, creating a "common playground" for localities and businesses to participate, promoting the digital transformation process in the field of tourism with a number of key task groups including: Building tourism database system; Establishing the information system interconnect among management agencies, localities and businesses; Applying technology to support in ensuring safe tourism, developing applications to support regulators, businesses and visitors such as “Vietnam Safe Travel app”, “Vietnam Tourism Guides - VTG app”, “Covid-19 safety self-assessment and registration system”.
Regarding supporting localities and destinations in digital transformation, in 2021, VNAT started to support Ha Giang and Thanh Hoa provinces to develop the smart destination. Recently, VNAT has supported the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam relic site (in Ha Noi) to apply a modern electronic ticket system to improve management capacity as well as improve the quality of welcoming and serving visitors” - Mr. Phuc shared.

In the upcoming time, to uphold digital transformation in the tourism industry, VNAT’s Vice Chairman Nguyen Le Phuc suggested focusing on the 8 main groups of tasks and solutions:
1. Continue to complete digital transformation projects and programmes in the tourism industry and submit them to the Government and the Prime Minister for approval.
2. Review, amend and supplement the legal documents, tourism development plans and strategies in accordance with the requirements of digital transformation tasks. Propose to amend rationally regulations related to e-commerce, online business models, transactions in the digital environment in the field of tourism.
3. Focus on developing some basic digital platforms of the tourism industry, including: The axis connecting the information system from the central government to the grassroots in service of state management; database system on tourism; e-commerce platform connecting service providers and visitors; the system of communication channels to promote Vietnam tourism on digital platforms.
4. Strengthen cooperation among units in the tourism industry and the information technology industry to design solutions and technology models to meet the needs of tourism business and management.
5. Uphold the public-private partnership mechanism to mobilise resources to implement tourism digital transformation.
6. Strengthen training and fostering human resources in the tourism industry to improve knowledge, skills and understanding about technology and digital transformation.
7. Accompany the creative startups, applying technology in the field of tourism, through organising competitions, creating a playground for young businesses to contribute new ideas for tourism development.
8. Strengthen international cooperation in tourism digital transformation, especially with global technology corporations to utilise knowledge and resources.

Mr. Nguyen Le Phuc believes that in the near future, the whole industry will push up strongly digital transformation in tourism activities, helping tourism to develop sustainably, developing more digital economic values from the smart tourism ecosystem, making an important contribution to realising the goal of developing tourism into a spearhead economic sector.

At the Forum, the delegates shared many opinions related to the development of the tourism digital economy, digital transformation trends in hotel management, tourism promotion, communication, product development, and business transactions. The delegates also emphasised that in order to promote digital transformation, technology is not the most important factor, but firstly thinking and awareness innovation fundamentally from traditional management thinking to a new thinking on management and exploitation of digital economy value.
