The recovery of the domestic tourism: helping the growth of aviation sector

(TITC) - Since the full reopening of the tourism on 15th March 2022, both domestic and international tourism markets have been vibrant again, domestic tourism in particular, has escalated during the Reunification Day 30 Apr and International Workers Day 1st May holidays and is showing signs of blooming in the summer of 2022.

According to the statistics of Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT), the number of domestic visitors in June 2022 increased gradually, estimated to reach 12.2 million arrivals, up 8.13 times compared to the same period of 2021, of which about 8.3 million overnight tourist arrivals. Generally, in the first 6 months of the year, domestic visitors reached about 60.8 million arrivals, an increase of 99% compared to the same period in 2021; Total receipts from tourists in the first 6 months are estimated  to reach VND265 trillion, up 98%. It can be said that the blissful result of domestic tourism has given a lift to the aviation sector to recover strongly.

According to the statistics of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV), in the first 6 months, the number of passengers via airports in Vietnam reached 40.7 million arrivals, up 56.8% compared to the same period of 2021. Vietnamese airlines carried about 20.1 million passengers, up 56.1% compared to the same period of 2021.

For the first 10 days of June 2022, the number of passengers via domestic air increased 30% compared to the same period of 2019 (before the pandemic). Eventually, higher than the number of passengers via air on the peak period of the past 30/4 - 1/5 holiday.

Noi Bai International Airport (Ha Noi) reported that for the first 10 days of June 2022, the number of passengers reached the average of 89,000 arrivals per day (of which domestic passengers are 80,000 arrivals). At weekends, the number of passengers travelling via Noi Bai International Airport increases to more than 95,000 arrivals per day.

Compared to the summer of 2019 (before the pandemic), the volume of domestic passengers passing through Noi Bai airport these days exceeds 30%, and exceeds 15% compared to the peak holiday season of 30/4 - 1/5.

In the period from 1 June to 15 August, the airlines such as Vietnam Airlines, Pacific Airlines and VASCO expect to provide more than 7.1 million seats across the flight network. In which, domestic flights serve about 6.3 million seats, up 10% compared to the same period of 2019. The most crowded flight routes this summer can be named round routes Ha Noi, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City and flights connecting popular tourist destinations such as Phu Quoc Island, Cam Ranh, Da Lat, Hue, Quy Nhon (Binh Dinh Province), Dong Hoi (Quang Binh Province), Tuy Hoa (Phu Yen Province), Con Dao (Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province),...

According to CAAV, it is expected in 2022, the number of passengers travelling via air nationwide will reach 87.7 million arrivals, up 190% compared to the same period of 2021. Vietnamese airlines also expect to serve 43.3 million passengers this year, up 185% compared to the previous year.
