Ninh Binh to host ceremony marking 50th anniversary of Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage

The 50th anniversary of the Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage, is scheduled to be held in Ninh Binh province on September 6.

According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Convention, will take place on the occasion of the official visit to Vietnam by UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay, from September 5-7.

The activities will be jointly held by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the People’s Committee of Ninh Binh province, and the Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO.

Various activities are scheduled to be held during the celebrations, including photo exhibitions, painting and film screenings on world cultural and natural heritage sites in Vietnam, contributing to promoting Vietnamese land, people and tourism.

A photo exhibition on world heritage will take place at the Convention Centre of Ninh Binh province on September 6, and then at the Trang An eco-tourism site from September 7 to 18.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) ratified the Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage, at its General Conference held in Paris on November 16, 1972.

As many as 194 countries had ratified and become parties to this Convention by 2020 and Vietnam officially ratified its accession to the Convention on October 19, 1987.
