Hue women spread green lifestyle

Update: 05/09/2022
From the "Green Sunday" movement launched by the provincial People's Committee in 2019, Hue people are trying to maintain and expand other movements so that Hue city becomes an attractive destination for domestic and foreign tourists. Visiting Phuoc Phu Village, an old village in Phong Hoa Commune of Phong Dien District in Thua Thien Hue Province, people can see the change of clean and green roads.

This is thanks to the efforts of women since the local authority launched the "Green Sunday" and "60 minutes to clean the house and alley" movements.

Starting from simple work in their own home, the members of the local women's union began to clean the kitchen, roads and grow flowers in the garden.

Many families have built fences to grow more clean, green fruits and vegetables, bringing more income.

Phan Thi Hong Thanh, head of the women's union, told Vietnamplus that she and other women went to each house every week to call on residents to clean up roads and alleys together.

Locals gradually supported this model and worked together. They also took turns helping lonely families.

In Quang Thai Commune, Quang Dien District, most women depend on agriculture for their livelihoods.

Many of them have developed an eco-friendly vegetable garden from a women's union's training course on the classification and treatment of organic waste that yields good probiotics for plants.

"Probiotics help plants grow better and limit insects, diseases, as well as save fertilizer and reduce the amount of waste discharged into the environment," said Van Thi Thin, a women's union member.

The work of the women's union members in Phuoc Phu Village and Quang Thai Commune are just two good examples of the whole province joining hands to protect the environment and build a green, clean province.

From the "Green Sunday" movement launched by the provincial People's Committee in 2019, Hue people are trying to maintain and expand other movements so that Hue city becomes an attractive destination for domestic and foreign tourists, according to deputy secretary of the provincial Party Committee, Phan Ngoc Tho.

The women's union and other units have bred more than 2,000 roses and more than 2,500 trees of all kinds have been planted, bringing beauty to the local roads.

In Phu Loc District, local residents and the women's union were supplied apricot blossom trees and bougainvillea to build along the roads.

Head of the women's union of Phu Loc Town, Dao Ngoc Thuy, said these flower routes not only beautify the locality but also create motivation for people to protect the environment and spread the green lifestyle.

Women in Huong Thuy Town and Phong Dien District have encouraged people to reduce the use of plastic.

Cans, plastic bottles are collected after being sorted daily and sold to raise funds to support women's union members, poor women and orphans in the locality.
