Cam Ly Waterfall was once known as a marvelous tourist site, an impressive stroke in the overall splendid and romantic landscape of Da Lat. However it has today lost its position of an attractive destination.
The waterfall is located 2 kilometers from the central of Da Lat City, on the way to Lang Biang plateau. Waste water of the city is pouring into the waterfall, making it seriously polluted. The lake at the waterfall’s foot becomes dark and dirty. A lot of waste including nylon packs, rotten wood, rags…floating cumbersomely obstructs the water flow. Tourists, hence, can not approach the waterfall for sightseeing due to awful smell, not to mention having bath or relaxing.
The Da Lat Flower Festival was over; however, the influx of tourists is still flocking to this highland tourist city. But the atmosphere at Cam Ly waterfall remains quiet and deserte, not deserving its outstanding reputation and history.
The waterfall’s managing board, instead of cleaning and improving the quality of this site, is still doing their business, selling entry tickets for VND 5,000 per visitor and promoting the waterfall through many advertising materials. Therefore, tourists have a feeling of being cheated after witnessing the real pictures. They have the same disappointment and surprise about this famed tourist destination. Ms. Minh Nhat from Ho Chi Minh City made a comparison: “Cam Ly Waterfall is a Nhieu Loc – Thi Nghe Canal of Da Lat City”. An owner of souvenir shop at the gate of the site said, the pollution has existed for 10 years but no considerable actions of responsible authorities have been seen.
The environmental pollution at Cam Ly Waterfall has become alarming. If there is no responsible action of the municipal authorities, the waterfall would become a polluted Nhieu Loc Canal in Da Lat City in a very near future.
