Cultural Festival of Khmer people in the South and Ooc Om Boc Festival 2022 to take place in November

(TITC) - The 8th Culture, Sports and Tourism Festival of Khmer people in the South and the 5th Ooc Om Boc Festival –Soc Trang Ngo Boat Race in the Mekong Delta region in 2022 have been confirmed at the press conference organised by Soc Trang Provincial People’s Committee and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MOCST) in Soc Trang Province.

These events will take place from 2nd - 8th November 2022, with the participation of 12 provinces and cities.

Accordingly, the 8th Culture, Sports and Tourism Festival of Khmer people in the South with the theme “Preserve and promote the cultural identity of the Khmer people in the South with equality, solidarity, integration and development”, will have the attendances of many Khmer artisans, artists, actors and athletes from 12 provinces and cities including: Soc Trang, Bac Lieu, Ca Mau, Tra Vinh, Vinh Long, An Giang, Kien Giang, Hau Giang, Tay Ninh, Binh Phuoc, Can Tho and Ho Chi Minh City.

Activities at the event include display, introduce and promote local traditional culture; community art performance and traditional costume fashion show; introducing Soc Trang street food for the third time in 2022…

In particular, traditional sports activities will have the 5th Soc Trang Ngo Boat Race in the Mekong Delta region in 2022 that attract participants of 45 men’s rowing teams and 11 women’s rowing teams.

Giving her remarks at the press conference, Ms. Trinh Thi Thuy, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism underlined the important meaning of the Festival. The event happens to honour, preserve and promote the cultural identity of the Khmer people in the South in the unified and diverse culture of the community of 54 ethnic groups in Vietnam. At the same time, introduce and promote traditional cultural values of the Khmer ethnic group in the South to a large number of domestic and international tourists; develop an advanced Vietnamese culture imbued with national identity.

Ms. Huynh Thi Diem Ngoc, Vice Chairwoman of Soc Trang Provincial People’s Committee, Head of Organising Board of the Festival, said, the 8th Culture, Sports and Tourism Festival of Khmer people in the South will be a great opportunity for local people to introduce unique cultural features, promote and stimulate tourism. The event will also be a cultural space for people to meet, exchange experiences, raise awareness and meaning in preserving and promoting the traditional cultural values of Khmer in the period of integration and development of the country.

In the first 9 months of 2022, Soc Trang tourism welcomed and served more than 1.8 million visitor arrivals. In terms of accommodation facilities, Soc Trang is also ready to accommodate nearly 400,000 visitor arrivals participating in the 5th Ooc Om Boc Festival – Soc Trang Ngo Boat Race in the Mekong Delta region in 2022.
