Asian nations share wetlands management experiences

than 200 delegates from 17 regional countries are attending the Asian Wetlands
Symposium 2008 in Hanoi to share information and experiences in
wetlands management.
The fourth symposium is an opportunity for participants to discuss a joint declaration on wetlands management in Asia and define top priorites to be presented to the 10 th meeting of the Conference of the Contracting Parties to the Convention of Wetlands (Ramsar) to be held in the Republic of Korea at the end of the year.
At the June 23-25 symposium, the Vietnamese Minister of Natural Resources and Environment said that his Government has exerted efforts to reduce negative impacts on the environment, especially on the wetlands areas.
Since joining the Ramsar Convention in 1989, Vietnam has issued many legal documents and policies on wetlands management, the minister said.
The conference will issue Hanoi calling for transnational actions for better wetlands management.
At the event, the participants will exchange experiences in wetlands management, cultural heritage and wetlands management with Vietnam .
Other issues, including logical utilisation of wetlands regions in sustainable agricultural development, education on wetlands, wetlands and biodiversity and the impacts of climate change on wetlands will also be discussed.
